The
states of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Pahang make up the
Southern Division - quite a "big" division when one considers
the number as well as the size and distance of the states one from
the other, especially the state of Pahang which is more towards
the north.
Given
the above geographical scenario, zonal representatives are appointed
to oversee the churches, provide pastoral care to our credential
members as well as coordinate zonal fellowships and meetings for
the following zones: Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Upper Johor, Lower
Johor and Pahang. Two language representatives are also appointed
to network with the Chinese and Tamil speaking churches.
Being
a "Division" and not a "District", the Supervisor
is appointed from and by the elected Executive Committee of the
Assemblies of God. The Division Supervisor then, in consultation
with the Executive Committee, appoints the Southern Division Committee
members. The requirements to qualify to be a District are:
- Number
of Sovereign churches 7
-
Number of Ordained Ministers 10
- Number
of Licensed Ministers 10
There
are 3 Sovereign Churches, 95 Home Missions Churches in the South.
There is a great harvest field out there in the South especially
for Chinese, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia language works. The harvest
is plentiful and we need to raise more workers to work amongst the
above-mentioned language groups.
